Dina | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Dina grew up in Romania and showed a real talent for drawing from an early age. She attended the High School of Fine Arts and then the National University of Fine Arts. During a stay in France, she discovered La Rochelle and it was love at first sight. She leaves her native country and settles in the region. Very quickly her work seduced, an English publisher noticed her. This is how she started to illustrate children's books in parallel with her painting activity. Dina creates a flamboyant universe like the red that she likes to use for her surrealist characters or her singular landscapes. Her creations are the reflection of an imaginary world, playful and colorful where humor is often present. This universe is related to the memories of his happy childhood. \The artist uses different techniques: oil, acrylic, collage, Indian ink and watercolor. Her pronounced taste for diversity and travels leads her to keep all sorts of salvaged objects and to write down all her ideas in a notebook. When the time comes, these objects and ideas find a place in her work. The mixture of techniques is used to produce different effects and textures. Scraping, tracing, painting and mixing paint with sand, adding fabric, all give a richness to the works. \Dina's characters dominate the surface of the canvas in moving compositions. The background is a collage made of pieces of road maps, train, subway, bus or plane tickets. The collage gives the impression of a single map with cities like Venice, Las Vegas, Verona, Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Capri... The red velvet spreads generously on the canvases. This color also speaks about the roots of the artist which are an integral part of his work. Dina wishes to transmit a message of optimism through blooming characters.
