Mamen Sabu | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

After winning numerous prizes in competitions in her native region, landscape artist Mamen trained in plastic arts techniques at the University of Murcia. Deeply committed to the idea that art should not be accessible only to a privileged few, the Spanish artist produces a large number of small-format works that highlight everyday activities, hobbies and objects; all of those experiences that animate the life of each person, every day, and that, more often than not, go unnoticed. Mamen's painting, exclusively figurative, is conceived as a personal diary, daily enriched with new paintings of various subjects: landscapes, still lifes and scenes of life. Thus, since the end of January 2015, the painter imposes on herself a rhythm of creation that consists in the realization of a work per day that she then publishes on her website.\nAlways starting her paintings in oil, the artist works by means of large brushstrokes, which she alternates with the use of the brush and the spatula. Sometimes she chooses to modify the pictorial elaboration by means of acrylic - mainly used for large formats intended for competitions and large-scale exhibitions -. This second technique, requiring her to work hard because of its quick drying, offers her the possibility to experiment more intensely with the material.\nRich in nuances, her chromatic palette develops around purplish tones that she transforms to create warmer or cooler tones, inspired by each work. Her works, with a luminous tone, are punctuated by the dynamic gestures of the artist.
