Pedrola Alban | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Passionate about learning to draw since he was a child, Alban began to develop his technique during his free time before integrating an art school in Montparnasse in the 1980s. He would then pursue his studies with many personal researches that he would enrich with a course at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse between 2003 and 2004. Since 2007, the artist from Aude has dedicated his professional life to the practice of painting that he carries out in his home region.“A medium of exchange and sharing,” Alban’s artistic approach is profoundly linked to philosophy. Working from acrylics on canvas, his works recount stories that showcase the emotions and memories intrinsically linked to the genre and the human condition. Interested as much by the surrounding environment as by the beings that live there, the artist seeks to translate into his painting his feeling and his questions about his kind and the contemporary society in which he is developing.From acquired academic rules, Alban would develop his own language where “free and geometric forms live together” and as such offer the viewer an immersion into a pictorial world that is just as dynamic as richly nuanced. At the limit between figuration and abstraction, between structural control and formal spontaneity, Alban’s work simplified over the years to become more legible, that the artist would enrich by giving an increasingly important place to colour. The painter imagines his canvases as open spaces where everyone is invited to enter to experience the dream and evasion.
