Dan was born and raised in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina. He studied graphic design in art school where he met his future wife (Julia Sisi). But the classical education seemed too simplistic for the two young artists. They dreamed of freedom. Together, they dropped out in search of a pure artistic language, detached from any theoretical or aesthetic influence. They abandoned themselves to painting instinctively, following the path traced by the artists of the Art Brut (Outsider Art) movement (Jean Dubuffet...)
In 1981, fleeing the dictatorial regime of their country, they moved to Barcelona where they worked in antiques for a while. Dan salvaged scraps of restored wood furniture to make sculptures. He was passionate about salvaging objects and experimenting with different techniques. In 2003, he left the continent with his wife to move to El Hierro, a small volcanic island in the Canary Islands and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where they established their home workshop. Since 2006, they have participated in many exhibitions around the world (France, USA, Spain, Thailand...). Isolated without being reclusive, they are members of Who-Ha-Da-Da Outsider Art Group and Neo-Outsiders, the international group of artists.
In their green paradise, Dan works facing the ocean to the sound of 60s Blues and Soul music. Creating is for him a way to "re-build the world." Recycling takes on artistic and ecological significance. Giving a second life to discarded materials and turning them into works of art, Dan questions man’s view of materials. In his highly coloured portraits, he combines natural elements with pasted newspapers. He plays on the transparency of the medium to create backgrounds that are rich in detail. Text rubs shoulders with paint in perfect harmony. Dan defines the various figures (people, animals) by thick black outlining to make them stand out better. His works offer an alternative to reality by transporting us to a happy dream world.
