Michel Yzorche | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

From his early childhood, Michel's life was closely linked to art in general. His father is a lithographer (printing process with ink or pencil) and transmits him the desire to paint. He joined a lithography workshop at the Estienne school and then studied graphic arts. He started working as a graphic designer for the magazine Art Press for the first few issues. In 1975, he decided to devote himself solely to his painting. Inspired by Fauvism, Surrealism and artists such as Antoni Tapiès, Pierre Soulages and Pablo Picasso, Michel is a precursor of an approach that favors encounters and exchanges. He divides his time between his studio and his pedagogical interventions (coordinator and speaker in plastic arts for the National Education). The transmission of his knowledge and the exchange with other artists participate to nourish his inspiration. Through a rigorous and precise graphics, Michel creates relationships between lithographic ink and spray paint. He paints on metal using the plates which are used as transfer in the process of offset printing. \Michel uses different techniques (oil, acrylic, ink, coating...) on various supports (canvas, cardboard, paper, metal...). His works reveal new spaces that open up with each brush stroke on a carefully worked background. The colors radiate in their purity. Their force is multiplied by the intervention of the clear and voluntary gesture which draws the abstract forms towards imaginary spaces. The strong structure in his composition is broken up in places by autonomous elements while keeping the whole harmonious.\n This experience, acquired during long years spent in the graphic arts world is freely manifested in his painting and in the diversity of surfaces, where the paper regains its primordial place.\n In 2011, Michel opens his studio with his partner, herself an artist. Both of them now exhibit in this haven of peace in Normandy.
