Nassim Al Amin | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Nassim Al Amin
  • France

Nassim has lived several lives. The first one takes place in Ethiopia where he grows up in a family of eleven children. At school, he quickly showed a predisposition for the plastic arts, but this apprenticeship ended when his country went to war with Eritrea. Forced into exile in 1998, Nassim emigrated to neighboring Egypt where some of his relatives were already living. Then begins a new stage in Cairo. Here begins his artistic reflection. The violence of his uprooting from his native land requires an outlet. The streets of the Egyptian capital are the scene of his first works until he meets his future wife who he joins in Paris in 2005. \Nassim decided to devote himself exclusively to painting the following year. His third life, in contact with an art-loving in-laws and museum regulars, opened new horizons of expression for him. He adopts an original style that he tints with traditional Ethiopian influences. His universe continues to evolve between a return to African sources and attempts towards more abstraction. \Painting allows the artist to exorcise his personal journey through topical themes. Nassim integrates, transforms and restores what he observes to deliver a message with universal ambitions. His paintings strongly evoke politically engaged notions, such as human rights, democracy or freedom of expression. So many subjects which concern, whatever the geographical, cultural, denominational sensitivities, etc.\n Nassim paints with acrylic on cotton or linen canvas. His pointillism develops a clever mixture of flamboyant colors. Tonic and lively at first sight, his painting appears more serene and soothing after a careful observation. His ability to represent humanity in all its complexity makes Nassim a modern day griot. A griot who tells his stories with the tip of his brush.
