Sadoun Chloé | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Sadoun Chloé
  • France
Born in Paris in 1970, Chloe’s childhood was punctuated by music, a passion she shared with her father, a record store owner. Then she became interested in the graphic arts, discovering Matisse (French artist, XIXth-XXth century), Picasso (Spanish artist, XIXth-XXth century) and Vaughan Oliver (English designer, XXth century). She loves Dadaism and Surrealism ( XXth century). But it was on discovering the collages of Prévert (French poet, XXth century) that the artistic fate of Chloe changed dimension. A great admirer of the artist, she experimented in turn with collage and assemblage, with which she covered her notebooks. She would never again stop creating. A graduate of the School of Modern Art in Paris in 1991, she became a graphic designer and illustrated three children's books. However, she thrived on collage and began creating works combining pencil drawing, acrylic paint and paper collage. Her works have one thing in common: each of them tells a story. For this Chloe salvages old pieces of paper that have suffered the ravages of time and have had a certain experience. Their shape and colour evoke in her all kinds of representations: a face, an object, something that will enable her to create the scene of a story whose title will appear to her once the work is finished. Her favourite theme: the improbable encounters of zany characters, animals and objects. She will use this as the leitmotif of her series ""New Friends"". These stories are not fully revealed. For Chloe, free interpretation is paramount. The artist wants to give everyone the opportunity to travel on seeing her works. It is up to the spectator to imagine the tone and outcome of these many meetings. By the 2000s, her style becomes more ""narrative"". It operates in a decidedly poetic world in which she rediscovers herself. In 2006, she moved to Normandy. Country life inspires her and her works adopt a wider range of authentic colours, closer to the nature that surrounds her. Her work is now recognized and reflects an intense love for human beings.
