Dat | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Born in Aveiro, Portugal, Paulo Humberto, alias D.A.T. (DIE.as.TRASH), studied graphic arts at the university. Once he graduated, he moved to Barcelona for a while to develop his art, which led him to borrow elements from street art to introduce them into his graphic compositions. He will exercise, first of all, as a VJ (Video Jockey), by realizing projected works mixing videos and illustrations.\nContinuously seeking to deepen his technique and to diversify his creations, D.A.T. begins his artistic activity by resorting to the techniques of the stencil and the collage, to then push his exploration towards the painting on mixed supports. Mainly made from painted drawings, the artist inserts in his compositions inscriptions and collages as well as all kinds of materials collected and then recycled, such as pieces of industrial waste recovered in the street.nFeeling very concerned by all the subjects relating to poverty, social injustice, D.A.T. conceives strong and committed figurative works - personal criticisms of the modern society and its deviances -, whose main subject is the human being, any age and sex confused. His lifestyle and experiences, as well as the environment around him, influence his work and creations. What counts for the artist is not to follow an already established protocol that would be frozen, but to feel things in the moment, always creating differently, so that each work is in some way a rebirth, a new artistic experimentation.
