Taguti Katya-Anna | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Taguti Katya-Anna
  • Russian Federation (the)
Daughter of the Russian painter Yakov Kozlov (1918-2015), Katya-Anna benefited as a child from his teaching and expertise, before training in the practice of painting techniques at the Moscow Academy of Arts. In parallel to the development of her pictorial work, the artist worked for several years on the realization of video productions and installations of objects. After graduating in 1982, she became a member of the Moscow Union of Artists two years later. Thus, during this period, Katya-Anna focused on drawing, a discipline that did not require the use of chemicals and could be practiced on any type of support. Conditioned by a restrictive environment, her graphic work has patiently asserted itself with passion and intensity to give birth to a production imbued with an infinite softness mixed with a latent gravity. Constantly equipped with her charcoals, pencils and red chalk, Katya-Anna creates multiple studies and portraits, both on canvas and on paper, which she sometimes likes to enhance with gold, silver or gypsum leaf. Adept at using mixed media - and more particularly collage, to which she regularly resorts as a visual metaphor for our constantly evolving society - the artist plays with the superimposition of materials to give body and substance to her subjects. Although deeply introspective, Katya-Anna's work thrives on experimentation, nourished daily by her readings, travels and cultural visits.
