Estelle spent her childhood in the Alps where her imagination and creativity thrived. She had three years of training in the fine arts in Annecy and then two years at the School of Fine Arts.
But the school system did not suit her, and at 21, accompanied by a friend, she left for six months to backpack around Indonesia. It was there that she naturally took up drawing. The two girls lived through various incidents, accidents and funny stories and are often asked to tell and share them. Not fluent in the Indonesia language, they both begin to draw their stories, unselfconsciously and without restraint. Thanks to the small box of watercolours they had brought with them, they worked on ‘exquisite corpses’ where each artist begins a drawing and then exchanges the paper, hiding the drawing and only revealing a line, a detail, a colour. The other artist then completes the drawing as she sees fit. What fun! The drawings are fantastic and unobstructed, a joyful exploration of deepness. This imaginary world is liberating and still guides her in her creative work today.
