In the forms, textures, and colors of Lamiel’s paintings, “one can feel the heart of Africa beating,” as Léopold Sédar Senghor would say.
The artisan developed her technique at home; the artist refined her palette of subtle hues—Sienna, burnt umber, and browns—framing villages and figures touched by the trade winds or the Harmattan.

Lamiel has her own stubborn method: she begins by searching for old papers, book covers, and vintage fabrics—all frayed, faded, and weathered by time. This curved mass will become a hill or a dune; these speckled fragments of pages, cliffs.
In Africa, according to Senghor, words evoke images the moment they are spoken.
In these works, the images evoke words, songs, and journeys.
A poetry of understated lyricism runs through the canvas, inviting reflection
and dreams.
Lamiel moves from the serendipity of her finds to her need to paint.
