Kaufmann Anita | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Kaufmann Anita
  • Germany
Self-taught, Anita began her abstract painting in 2003 and quickly became a full-time painter, working daily on her works from her studio in Munich, Germany. After six years devoted exclusively to her practice, Anita decided to take to the sea and discover distant lands. Thus, from 2009 to 2015, she embarked with her family on a long journey by boat, which took them to the farthest reaches of the Pacific, between French Polynesia and America. Enriched as much by the different cultures that the artist rubs shoulders with and tries to apprehend, by the people she meets, as by the sumptuous museum collections that she has had the chance to visit, Anita's pictorial work gradually evolves towards more figuration, to finally focus on a representation of the human figure. On her return, the painter settled in the Bavarian town of Regensburg and has since been passionately working on her portraits, which she paints with acrylic and mixed media. Flipping through magazines, observing people in public spaces or browsing social networks, Anita goes in search of her model, the face that will hold her attention enough to feed her artistic reflection. Sketched with delicacy, according to a subtle combination of blacks, grays and whites - which voluntarily let appear the grain of the support in which it is inscribed -, the subject seems to emerge from the canvas to become one with it.Admirer of the work of the American painter Chuck Close (born in 1940), Anita creates with her characters an intense intimacy that she tries to transmit to her public.n
