Malard Chloe | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Malard Chloe
  • France
Chloé Malard is passionate about drawing, the stroke of a pencil with which she depicts a reality of welcoming, whole, reassuring allures. With light blocks of colour with felt tips, the artist thus tries to transpose these simple life moments, these daily instances that she then crops with the emotions and expressions of everyone.\n Her light and brightly coloured drawings highlight the act of sketching, the dexterity of the stroke, the momentum of the pencil. Ill-tempered, colourful, expressive, the scenes that Chloé Malard makes are for her principally the place where light dissolves and shadows and reflections become washed up. It is effectively her bright intensity but also and especially the lightness of the composition, its voids and cavities that precisely make the artist’s approach distinctive, creating a unique atmosphere, attention to detail, a precision of emotions. The pencil strokes thus sketch a silhouette, the décor of a warm interior or a blossoming terrace and tries to capture the expression of happiness, expectation or solitude. For her, the colours come to harmonise the intensity and complete the depth of emotions.\n The image as a whole adds elements while allowing glimpses at its voids, its doubts and its mistakes. Aerial, mysterious, almost transparent, the composition draws all of its force from the random and intuitive component of the artist’s gestures, the stroke of the drawing that catches the passing of time in mid-air.
