Langeron Luc | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

  • Langeron Luc | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography
Langeron Luc
The surprising thing is that when you split the wood find that it is always cut in its own unique way, so that two pieces of wood will never have the same cut or the same age.
Making his subject resonate, such is the ultimate goal of Luc Langeron. The artist from Aix was known in the past for his figurative work, a tribute to the colourful and eternal Province of Giono. But now his recent works, somewhere between sculpture and painting, are drifting towards abstraction, mixing wood, plaster, ochre and acrylic. "It is almost by chance that things have happened. The winter for me is conducive to creative research; I have found a way of expressing a particular cut of wood by working the material so that there is a sense of duality created between me and the wood", highlights the artist. But don't worry, Provence is still at the heart of his work, but this time is expressed in the form of a constant penchant towards colour, nature, minerals and plants.
The pattern of the strips of wood, irregular by nature, plays with light and shade to accentuate the strong textures. The transparency of a glossy varnish on top of the saturated colours reinforces the impression of movement. "The surprising thing is that when you split the wood find that it is always cut in its own unique way, so that two pieces of wood will never have the same cut or the same age. I make use all of this to create strips of wood where one oscillates in these patterns of construction between the fullness and emptiness of the wood…" He acknowledges that he needed to work on the depth and the volume of his painting. "Wood, an extraordinary material, gave me that opportunity because it retains the original volume."
