Marc Gonzalez | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

After studying fine arts in high school, Marc trained at the School of Fine Arts, where he experimented with various painting techniques: watercolour, oil and acrylic. Dissatisfied with the quality of industrial paints available on the market, the artist decided to make his own mixes. After several attempts, he managed to find the perfect recipe that gives his paintings their particular texture. In 1998 he won the prize for Fine Arts for young artists of Valencia. This recognition marked the beginning of his artistic career, and opened the doors to galleries. He has exhibited in Spain since, and currently lives and works in Barcelona.\n His artistic influences are rooted in contemporary art, expressionism and abstraction. Marc admires the work of fellow Spanish artists Josep Moscardó, Montesol and Antonio Lozano. He uses mixed media on canvas by combining painted and glued elements. Colour and text mix freely in a space divided into different strata. The artist constructs imaginary landscapes where earth and sky merge in a happy colourful patchwork. Between figuration and abstraction, his compositions reveal a perfect balance of textures and colours.\n Marc is inspired by major urban centres, and more specifically, the intoxicating warmth of his hometown, Barcelona. To create his unstructured landscapes he chooses panoramic views available from the balconies or terraces of a skyscrapers or buildings. From this vantage point, he photographs the city with its tangled streets bathed in light. This preliminary work leads to chance encounters. Mark does not hesitate to ask strangers to open their doors to allow him access the best views of the city. This intrusion into people's privacy gives rise to situations full of spontaneity. With these human experiences, the artist redistributes this generosity through his vivid and lively compositions.\n\n
