Pascale Jacquemond Collet | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Pascale Jacquemond Collet
  • France
Pascale developed her creativity in parallel with her career as a psychotherapist for adults and adolescents. The Parisian artist first had theoretical training at the École du Louvre before continuing her artistic training at the Villejuif School of Fine Arts (Val-de-Marne).\n In 1994, she created a painting workshop for children which she led herself until 2001. Her personal work was fed by this experience of developing a graphic language for youngsters. At the same time, Pascale completed her studies in Art Therapy and Psychology at the René Descartes University in Paris. She then sought to deepen her understanding of the relationship between unconscious and pictorial languages. An internship provided an opportunity to discover the rich collection of the Sainte-Anne hospital studio. Kept at the Centre For Expression since 1950, these paintings from patients with mental disorders profoundly influenced Pascale who participated in creating awareness for them through exhibitions. This approach responds to a conception of art that she promotes: ""to see and give to be seen.""\n The artist creates her own works using oil and knife. Her shimmering universe finds its inspiration in nature. The curve of a road, the bark of a sycamore, a scorched wheat field, the running water of a river, the shore at low tide: her visions are deposited in successive layers in her mind before emerging in colour on the canvas. This slow filtering of light, time and space explains the apparent abstraction of her work. Much as Édouard Vuillard (French painter, nineteenth and twentieth centuries), Pascale reveals the intimacy of her subjects. As Pablo Picasso (Spanish artist, twentieth century), she finds in a movement the joyful force of childhood. Through her painting, her presence in the world is complete.
