Tate | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Tate grew up in Girona, Spain. From an early age she developed a passion for painting and travelling. At 20 she decided to visit Europe and Africa. She spent several years travelling the world, meeting new people and cultures. \n Back in Spain in 1998, she decided to take courses at the Fine Arts School of Olot. She was interested in different techniques of expression: sculpture, visual poetry (graphically illustrated) and performance art. \n She finally decided to specialise in painting, which became her main artistic language. She quickly became known and began exhibiting in different structures within Girona before participating in group and solo exhibitions in Germany….\n Tate uses acrylic paint for its rapid drying and then applies a glaze (preparation applied to other colours to revive their brilliance). She works the subject matter with precision using a spatula. Colours, fonts and symbols blend together to create harmony in her paintings.\n She likes to paint natural elements such as landscapes and passing seasons, which are true sources of inspiration for her. She plays with the shadows and light that the Mediterranean, the cradle of her childhood, offers. She punctuates her works with African references related to her many travels.\n The ""Impressionist"" and ""Abstract Expressionism"" movements of the last century influence her work. She admires the attention to detail from Gustav Klimt (nineteenth century) and the colour schemes of Marth Rothko (twentieth century).\n In her abstract canvases, Tate seeks spontaneity, experimentation and poetry. She is open to change, and her works are a reflection of her personal evolution.
