V. Tagle | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

V. Tagle
  • Chile
Flowers, trees, landscapes on wide monochrome drawings, interrupted by living and present marks, to indicate the existence of a hut or an objective element. Beginning her painting career with resolutely figurative art, Virginia Tagle tends towards authentically independent painting free from the critical public eye of her home country, Chile. Detaching herself from the academic tradition, the artist improved in Europe in the workshops of the Ecole du Louvre and Ecole des Beaux-Arts studios in Paris.\n As forms disappeared, textures therefore appeared. The artist’s chromatic pallet changed radically so that she only explores greys, ochres and blues.\n Virginia Tagle then exhibited abroad (New York, Frankfurt, Guatemala, France), which liberated her from her country’s disdain for landscapes and subjects touching on nature. Her art became conceptual art, however, all the while keeping the problem of a semi-abstract narration.\n Nicolas de Staël, Morandi, Soulages and Rothko inspire her and feed her art which treats states of the soul, its feelings in rural and urban landscapes, places abandoned by humans, sand, the sea and mountains.\n Oils on wood, acrylics on canvas, coats, transfers on paper and a mix of techniques are the tools the artist explores without ever starting the same piece twice. The background colour will often prove to be complementary of the one imagined as the final one. Looking at a painting by Virginia Tagle is like reading a sentence by Pablo Neruda.
