Xandy Lifson | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Originally from Illinois, Xandy grew up in the countryside of the United States Midwest before leaving for Indiana to study Fine Arts at the University of Bloomington. From her childhood, she has preserved a deep attachment for nature and all vegetal and mineral beings that inhabit it. This attention for the environment that surrounds her remains the basis of her pictorial work and is still her main source of inspiration today.\n After learning to paint with oils at university, Xandy pursued her teaching in Florence and then in London. In Italy, she discovered the Renaissance works – an era to which she vows great admiration – and began integrating a symbolic language into her creations. Having graduated, she left to set herself up in Arizona where she was introduced to the practice of acrylics. This technique allows her to work on the colour in depth by playing with the superimposition of shades. Instinctive, the artist carries out her works quickly and joyfully, allowing her imagination to draw itself onto her canvases.\n An insatiable artist with multiple talents, Xandy created her first freelance company in 1988, based in Chicago. Her creativity would therefore be expressed on numerous supports, ranging from textile design to the illustration of works for young people and school textbooks. In 1996, she decided to devote herself exclusively to her pictorial activity. Based in Sedone, she allowed herself to be carried by the beauty of the surrounding nature that she tried to transpose as best she could in her painting. Uniting humour and spirituality, Xandy’s works are filled with an omnipresent luminosity that she artist continually explores through contrasted forms that she sketches.
