Pass Bart | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Pass Bart
  • United States of America (the)
Born in 1951 in Alabama, Bart grew up in Louisiana in New Orleans. His parents recognized his artistic talents early on and enrolled him in private lessons in high school. He continued his education in high school while taking private art classes in the French Quarter. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with honors in painting and printmaking. He then departed from a set path and traveled to India, living in an ashram for a year and a half. He became interested in meditation and spirituality. For several years he lived in communities and worked for non-profit organizations, while expanding his artistic creation as a glass artist, iconographer, jewelry maker, sculptor and photographer. An active member of various art associations in the United States, including the New York Art Students Association, he seeks fulfillment in his artistic practice through his art classes for children, and his various projects (stained glass design, photography, drawing, sculpture, and regular stays in Florence where he studies at the academies). In recent years, he has refocused on painting, spending many hours in galleries and museums in the United States as well as in churches and museums in Europe and Russia, perfecting his knowledge of Byzantine and Renaissance art, marveling at the great masters of the past, the Impressionists and contemporary artists. A resolutely figurative artist, Bart paints only in oil, on panel or canvas. He claims to be part of the contemporary realist movement in the tradition of realist painting that developed during the Renaissance. Among the greats who inspired him are: Velazquez, Vermeer, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Monet, Bonnard, Chagall, Matisse, Sargent, Sorolla, Zorn.... He hopes that his works will bring others inspiration, spiritual relief and that joy that he himself has found on his artistic path. A path he intends to continue, if only to improve his observation skills.
