Corbard Christophe | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Forever inhabited by pictorial practice, Christophe began his learning process by training in advertising design, before starting a course dedicated to the trompe-l’œil genre. At the same time, he obtained as an open candidate his professional studies certificate in “painting letters”. At just twenty years old, the young man from Nantes had already acquired a solid theoretical base and practice when he became a painter decorator at the beginning of the 1990s. He then carried out many orders, from advertising signs to trompe-l’œil, as well as designing posters and mural decors.From 1999, Christophe gave up order painting to devote himself fully to his works, evolving his status to one as a painter artist. Attracted by the light characteristic of the southern regions, he decided two years later to set himself up in the village of Aureille in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. A great supporter of the painting “as you see it”, the artist works exclusively from oils that he applies with a paintbrush or a knife on a carefully prepared canvas support. However, some of his subjects – principally those in movement – are conceived in the workshop space based on personal photographs.His technique has evolved throughout the years, moving from hyper-realism to a more liberal portrayal, in part due to the knife technique – now favoured – that he associates with the medium. This mix allows him to be more liberal both in the execution of his gestures as in the final depiction. Filled with light, endowed with bright colours, Christophe’s landscapes and life scenes are a very beautiful representation of his adoptive region, whose atmosphere he depicts with much affection.
