Helena Pallares | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Helena Pallares
  • France
Helena made compositions using photomontage and magazines from the first half of the XXth Century, which she would come across in antique fairs or on the Internet, and then combine them with various types of paper. The artist enjoyed cutting various materials out, cutting them up and superimposing them and was guided by the graphic realisation of an idea - a dream, a sentence, a concept- either in the context of a spontaneous exercise or guided only by her own subjectivity. Helena has always been interested in the literary and artistic movements, referred to as Dadaism and Surrealism, and believes that ""both these artistic movements have greatly influenced her, not only as an artist but also in the way that she approaches and sees the world in general."" Thus, she enjoys enhancing her process with research and works by artists such as El Lissitzky (1890-1941), László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946),, Hannah Höch (1889-1978), René Magritte (1898-1967) and even Man Ray (1890-1976), while drawing her own inspiration from photographs and silent film.\n
