Laura Chapa Lee | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Laura Chapa Lee
  • Mexico
A Mexican painter and sculptor, Laura Chapa Lee developed a love for artistic practice very early in her childhood, an appetite which she continued to feed over the years. Thus, in 1988, she began learning sculpting techniques in the studio of Noah Alvarez, then in 1995 she began painting with Patricia Gonzalez. Since 2014, she has been sharing her time between the creation of her pictorial and sculptural works, either in the calmness of her own studio, or in that of the artist Armando Galavíz, from whom she loves to receive valuable advice. Driven by the desire to share her experience with others, especially with children, Laura Chapa Lee taught visual arts in her own studio between 2014 and 2016. Life and nature are at the heart of the artist’s inspiration, which she serenely translates into shapes and colours, according to her wishes in the moment. Passionate about discoveries and experiments that have led her to exhibit her works since the early 90s in Mexico and the United States, Laura Chapa Lee is as comfortable in the practice of representation and abstraction, realistic work as well as fantastical. Conscious that only daily work guarantees real expertise, she does not abstain from any style or technique in order to learn more every day. Thus, oils, acrylics and mixed media meet on the canvas to form delicate compositions marked by both poetry and magic.
