Marta Ponce Delgado | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Marta's artistic career has taken her from the world of illustration to the world of music. After a long musical course at the Barcelona Conservatory, she turned to drawing by enrolling at the FEM Art school in the Catalan capital. A perfectionist, she perfected her technique during a course at the Escola Massana, also in Barcelona. Marta's vocation for drawing was revealed at an early age. When paper was scarce, the walls of her childhood home served as a support for her first creations. Today, his work is exhibited in Catalan Spain and has been noticed in France and Italy, where he has received specific commissions. The artist combines this pictorial activity with her practice of the violin and her participation in the performances of the music groups Trobar de Morte and Friday Frolics.\nBefore plunging into the professional world of painting and music, Marta studied teaching and then worked in different schools. This work in contact with young children gave her the opportunity to invent her first characters to illustrate the stories she told them. Marta's work is strongly influenced by the ancient times, Art Nouveau and the illustrators of the late 19th century. Old postcards also inspire her poetic visions, tinged with nostalgia. The dreamlike world she represents is populated by female characters whose rosy cheeks convey languor. \On a colored acrylic background, Marta draws meticulously with pen and pencil. To decorate her always very detailed works, she uses lace ribbons, textiles in elegant colors or elements of dollhouses. These techniques fit the themes dear to the Catalan artist and contribute to the melancholic atmosphere of her works.
