Maurizio Galloro
Maurizio Galloro France

An applied and diligent designer, the young Maurizio aged ten integrated the workshop of the Calabrian painter and sculptor Francesco Gallo, aka INIS (born in 1955), set up in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. During the fifteen years he spent at his side, the artist taught him to master the technique of oil painting, initiating him to the work of material and light and immerged him into the world of fine arts.

An enthusiast of oil painting with a knife, Maurizio designs his canvases as fragments of history, “that of the path of [his] life”. His works are produced with a cameo of tones, mostly from a pallet made of greys, and sometimes built-up with touches of bright colours. Liberally figurative, they show us urban scenes where the games of perspective, material and light are omnipresent. This composition work with a resolutely contemporary feel, gives all of its force to the works created. Passionate about pictorial art, his influences range from impressionist painters’ works (second half of the 19th century) to the works of the “enlightenment masters” that are for him Michelangelo Merisida Caravaggio, aka Le Caravage (1571-1610), the English painter and engraver William Turner (1775-1851) and the contemporary artist Pierre Soulages (born in 1919).

In 2010, Maurizio decided to detach himself from his professional career to dedicate himself more regularly to painting and as such allow him to “give his life balance”. The following year, he would meet the painter, sculptor and poet David Tronel – with whom he would exhibit in 2012 and 2013. This year would also mark the assertion of his artistic expression.
