Pierre Reymond
Pierre Reymond France

Set up in his workshop in Chambéry in Savoie department, Pierre has worked to produce his works since 2004. The French literature teacher, who has taught in several high schools in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region for many years, chose to improve his knowledge by enrolling in a course dedicated to computer assisted creative techniques. Upon graduating in 2000, Pierre would integrate the IT service of a large company, which would allow him to earn his stripes in this new skill domain.

A keen drawer since he was a child, the artist’s attention has turned over the years to oil painting. Performing directly on the canvas support without any sketching beforehand, Pierre interprets the world around him from a multitude of colourful touches, composing his pictorial works “principally with volume, accumulations of volumes and nuances of shades that define at the same time perspective, horizon and motifs”. Essentially square-shaped, these applications form, all together, a visual landscape whose final aspect oscillates between tradition and modernity, thus echoing the decorative art of antique mosaics, all the while remembering the effect of pixilation that is born from the combination of an image with a digital technology.

Inspired, among others, by representatives of lyrical abstraction including Zao Wou-Ki (1920-2013) and Nicolas De Staël (1914-1955), and steered by his artistic research into an increasingly more obvious abstraction, the painter abandoned his paintbrush in 2007 to work from now on just with a knife, which, according to him, allows “construction, abstraction, simplification, cutting up in the masses, polishing: everything that has made [his] painting since”.
