I use my creativity as a tool to broadcast a message of love and tolerance to help man to continue to develop his humanity.
Born in 1973 in Majdal Shams, a small town in the Golan Heights, Ayman Halabi says that he did not chose art, but art chose him. Art is a way for him to realize and affirm his Syrian identity in a territory that has always been under Israeli occupation. At the age of 25 he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. For him man and art are intertwined. He sees art as a form of collective conscience of our communities. His works thus interpret the human and the world in which he operates in a given time and place. Unavoidably affected by the geopolitical situation in the Golan Heights and separated from a part of his family living in Syria, the artist gives his subjects notions of suffering and absence. A member of the artistic association ""El Fath Mudares"" and the International Union of Photographers, Ayman Halabi works to denounce through his work any form of authoritarianism and advocates the right to preserve and develop one’s culture and identity.
During his studies, Ayman discovered the two friends and figures of Austrian painting of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: Klimt and Schiele. He remains in awe of the Klimt’s colours and Schiele’s distorted features. He is also captivated by the works of Rembrandt, a master of chiaroscuro. The artist willingly mixes techniques and materials. Most of his paintings are also the subject of his experiments and commonly combine oil painting and acrylic. Having initially worked with shades of brown, he turned to using colour in the 2000s. He sees the colours as beings of their own, interacting and tending to discord as much as to harmony. Currently in his "black and white" period, the artist is now seeking to highlight the specificities of the region and its people and tries to relate them with his analysis of the human race.
