Ender Dikmen | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Hasan Ender Dikmen thus pays homage to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk through a series of portraits that depict the great man. An officer in the Turkish Army and the country’s first president, he was notably the founder of the Republic of Turkey. Anxious to mix social and historical painting, the artist narrates to us through his gestures his own history and his country’s, the everyday life and the great cultural builders. His project in itself touches the universal and what man can make particular out of the ordinary. Paul Valéry thus said about realist painters that they “applied themselves to describing the most ordinary, sometimes the most worthless objects, refinement, consideration, a work, quite an admirable virtue; but without realising that they were going about it beyond their principle, and that they were inventing another “truth”, a truth of their production, entirely fantastic”.
