Géraldine Theurot | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Géraldine Theurot
  • France
Géraldine Theurot’s passion for painting was born at a very young age. As a child, she developed a deep interest in composition and colour. At Dole School of Arts, she first learnt to use water paints and watercolour by copying the paintings by the great Impressionist masters, such as those by Bernard Buffet, a French painter, from whom she would notably draw her mastery of composition.\n Then claiming complete independence with regard to her designs and exploring her own colourful, bright, fluid and fleeting pallets and compositions, Géraldine Theurot goes beyond the classical use of paint to experiment with new techniques, notably such as mixing acrylics with sand to give the material a textured look, an almost sculptural thickness. The artist also creates oil paintings, which multiplies the nuances and the effects of the light, and more recently, she has tried linocut, similar to engraving on wood.\n A true “all rounder”, Géraldine Theurot has developed a multi-faceted approach. Feeding off of her close surroundings, she explores, contemplates and captures the images of our world, an inexhaustible source, to re-transcribe them in impressions, touches, effects of hues, colours and materials. Nature, skies and towns form hazy ensembles. Depopulated, her paintings appear as complex ensembles combining a range of colours and a feeling of movement. On the other hand, in her engravings, men meet in realist compositions, real situations where however, the unknown and the mysterious always stand side by side. Fixing the moment and conserving the ephemeral safely.
