Jorge Codas | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Jorge Codas
  • France
Jorge was born in Argentina, in a small village in the province of Chaco near the Paraguayan border. Attracted by art since his childhood, he studied in Buenos Aires, taking classes in graphic design at the New School of Enrique Vieytes (Argentine painter and illustrator) and learned photographic techniques at Agfa Gevaert (Belgian digital imaging company). Fascinated by the mechanisms of the brain, he studied methods of personal development at the ILVEM institute. From 1982 to 1986, he perfected his drawing technique at New York University and took courses in literature at the Catholic University of Asunción (Paraguay). He took part in several neurolinguistic seminars and programs from 1991 to 2009. He now lives and works in France.\n Since 1985, Jorge has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout South America (Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Peru) and abroad (France, USA). In 2010, he was invited by the City of Longjumeau to compose a series for the Tour de France, around a personal exhibition entitled ""On good wheels.""\n Painter, photographer, writer, illustrator, this former Fine Arts professor is a complete artist. For him, art is a ""wonderful opportunity to change things."" Jorge sees art as a committed act of life, a way of acting on a small scale to make the world more just. Through his status as an artist, he feels a mission; that of describing the spectacle of everyday life with humour and derision: ""Beauty will be fun or not.""\n Jorge paints with acrylic and ink on paper and mixed media. His graphic universe combines vivid colours with lively and excited design. Quickly sketched, his characters give the impression of always being in motion. Writing punctuates his compositions, upsetting the traditional codes of painting. Through his animated skits, Jorge captures reality with sincerity and optimism, without taking himself seriously.
