Joxart | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Originally from Germany, Joxart now lives in Auckland, New Zealand. After a 20 year career in jewelry design and dental prosthetics, she began painting in 2005 as a stress relief therapy. Following a successful first exhibition in Whangarei in 2005, Joxart continued her work and exhibited at the Auckland Debutante Show the following year. From then on, she devoted herself entirely to painting and sculpture. \Believing strongly in the importance of teaching, she takes every opportunity to improve her knowledge. In 2010, she began a new 3-year course of study in Applied Arts, which she successfully completed in 2013.Ó For Joxart, the creative process is instinctive. She never plans her work and often doesn't know what she is going to paint when she starts. She describes it as looking in the mirror "with your nose touching it. You can't make out what you see, but as you step back, the vision becomes clearer until you reach a point where everything is clear. On her canvases, the concrete objects in our environment seem to escape and transform into free, beautiful, airy, even ephemeral elements like soap bubbles (one of her trademarks). It can be beautiful dresses of a day, light and vaporous, or industrial chimneys of a power station which become strange beacons of light, striped, colored. All this in a figurative style that evokes anticipation, hope... and with humor if possible. \ÓnJoxart likes to present us with pictorial stories, with subtle hues, that speak of foreign countries and unexplored spaces. Places where no one has been before but where one always feels welcome and strangely familiar. Where the ugly has been transformed into the beautiful. Worlds that she can live with and that others can love. One thing is certain: on Planet Joxart, the future is always bright and luminous.
