Khedekar Sunita | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Khedekar Sunita
  • United Kingdom
Sunita was born and raised in a traditional Indian family in the Maharashtra region of western India. The cultural richness of India with its joyful religious festivals and traditional fabrics awakened in her an artistic vocation. She studied Fine Arts at the prestigious Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts in Mumbai (Bombai). After graduating in 1991, she was hired by the advertising agency Sowbhagya as an illustrator. She then worked alongside the director of the Trikaya-Grey agency. In 1995, she created her own creative studio and tried out several techniques (stained glass, fresco, oil and acrylic painting). Her professional activities lead her to collaborate with designers and interior architects. This period saw her first exhibitions and the beginning of her recognition. In 1999, she moved to England, where she still lives and works today. Fascinated by the beautiful landscapes of the English countryside, Sunita began to paint colorful compositions to the rhythm of the seasons. She does not forget her roots and continues to be inspired by Indian themes. Art has been present in many forms throughout her life. During her studies, Sunita took classical Indian dance classes. In London, she was introduced to traditional Hindustani singing. Her paintings are a mixture of the warmth of her native country and the softness of her adopted land. If the subject is English, the way she treats it as a colorful patchwork evokes her Indian origins. The artist appreciates the technique of acrylic. She treats both figurative and abstract subjects, realistic or mythological. Her architectural landscapes recall the geometric compositions of Paul Klee (German painter, 20th century). Sunita draws her inspiration from nature and the things that surround her. A color, a shape or a texture is enough to give her the idea of a painting. Her poetic works are a diary to which she confides the state of her emotions. The artist guides the spectator through her personal universe while leaving him free of his interpretation.
