Majo | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Majo
  • France
Majo was born in Barcelona shortly before her family moved to France. She grew up in Paris and began drawing at an early age. In the playground, surrounded by a circle of onlookers, she made drawings on paper that children bought for a few centimes. The classroom walls served as a background for her first exhibitions. Later, she naturally took up artistic training at the Duperré School of Art in Paris. \n After graduation she created a workshop, drawing together a group of graphic designers, musicians, and artists in Paris. She then returned to Spain and set up a company selling decorative items. This experience allowed her to have a workshop and an exhibition space. She discovered the business of art by selling her work. Majo had many artistic encounters and held her first solo exhibitions in Barcelona, Murcia, Valencia and Paris.\n Majo approaches square formats as removable modules that allow her to question reality. She likes to experiment with her works by destroying and recomposing them endlessly. The material and colours are worked by combining natural earth and pure pigments. Her works, somewhere between drawing and painting, are quick and gestural. Majo combines and modifies graphic design that comes from comics, an iconography of art history and a Pop aesthetic. She draws her inspiration mainly from contact with emerging Spanish artists. \n The female body is both subject and object of this artistic research. Inspired by the great masters of classical nudes, Majo communicates her love of humanity through her representations. Her works are a basis of reflection for herself and her viewers on the condition of women and minorities in general. \n Driven by the dynamics of creation, her approach, initially meditative becomes playful and decorative.
