Virginie Van den Bogaert | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Virginie Van den Bogaert
  • France
Listening to her desires and abilities, Virginie came to art naturally. Lines and colors have always been necessary to enrich her life, to take pleasure and to express her ideas. As a child, Virginie was bored at school and spent much of her time daydreaming. Although she was very curious, no school subject attracted her more than art. After drawing in the margins of her notebooks and on the class tables, she realized that only an artistic curriculum could suit her. In high school, she decided to study architecture before entering the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg (67) for five years of studies in the field of art and illustration. Since then, Virginie has been living off the fruit of my imagination. On watercolor paper, the artist paints with a brush and pen using inks capable of restoring bright and luminous colors. She creates her silhouettes with walnut stain before shading them with other colors. The pen work allows her to accentuate the fineness of the details. This technique is adapted to her spontaneous style and her taste for fluidity. Travel inspires her as well as tales and legends. Sometimes grating but most often joyful, her works are inhabited by fantasy. The wolf, his true companion, is staged in all sorts of situations, always on the move and ready to live new adventures. In improbable and funny machines, the animal carries with him all his household, on the way to new horizons. Thanks to him, Virginie plays on contrasts. Her wolf has indeed two facets: it appears under a friendly face while remaining wild. The artist thus shares her offbeat vision of the world and invites the audience into a light and friendly universe.
