Very early on Thierry was attracted to painting and electronic music. His musical affinities took him into the world of musician Brian Eno, initiator of the "Ambient Music" concept. Discreet music, barely perceptible, designed to encourage and stimulate a quiet space for reflection, "ambient" became his "artistic catalyst". His passion for art led him to study applied graphic and fine arts, and textile design.
The first glance at Thierry’s paintings is almost inexorably on the photocopied vignettes of human figures found in all of his works. They act like a magnet and capture our attention. They attract us or repel us, but they are the heart of the composition.
On canvas, materials are glued or bound. Metal, paper, fabric, and wood are juxtaposed to form strong or fragile ensembles. His creations have a structure and a totemic composition. These assemblies of altered and worn materials become witnesses of time, of passing life... totems that seem erected in memory of one or another. The palette is often bright and contrasting, full of pigment. Highly textured colours evoke materials, minerals and space.
Thierry’s paintings also lead us to the discovery of new introspective inner voyages. The symbols used - circles, squares, corrosion, links, rhythm, keys, roads, the moon, the twinkling of stars – are like many guides who accompany us in his pictorial walks.
Stirring up remembrance, he strews improbable fragments of memories about his photographic cameo. These scattered milestones organize to recreate harmony, seeking a possible timeless and universal balance.
