Self-taught and coming to painting late, Florence Thoirey-Fourcade balances her career as the person responsible for public relations at the Théâtre de la Ville à Paris with her creative side, which she displayed about fifteen years ago. She entered the field with automatic drawing on paper, at first using ballpoint pen and then ink from China. Abstract forms are a must for her, essentially based around the circle. With drawing taking an ever greater place in her life, she took lessons of Visual Arts in Villejuif and Greta, and then left behind abstract forms to treat little by little the figurative.
Her favourite themes, inspired by Miro, Nicky de Saint-Phalle or singular art, are developed around characters she wishes to borrow from tenderness and poetry, all from her imagination. Florence’s universe is happy and dreamlike, inhabited by strange and fantastical beings, humans or animals.
Pencil drawing always precedes the artist’s work with acrylic colours on the canvases. It gives life to the human beings who populate the main part of the compositions. Silk paper and newspaper collages with images stripped with acetone or writing, come and inhabit the fantastical world and shifted onto small square formats (of 20 X 20cm to 40 X 40cm). Ochres, blues and reds allow us to slip into a dreamlike cosmos filled with positive emotion.
