Esteban trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts in San Alejandro in Cuba before working in New York for several months in an artist collective called "The Wall". He participated in many workshops and showed his work at several prestigious public and private institutions. In 2012 he opened his own studio, "Almost Famous Gallery" in his childhood city Havana. He uses this space as a workshop and a gallery but it is also a space in which he transmits and shares his artistic penchant by teaching classes to children and adults.

From the very start of his artistic education, Esteban was drawn to the expressionist movement and he focuses his attention on the artists he admires: the Austrian illustrator and painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918), the German painter Ernest Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938), and the Norwegian painter and engraver Edvard Munch (1863-1944). He is also drawn to more contemporary artists such as the Cuban painters Antonia Eiriz (1929-1995), Belkis Ayón Manson (1967-1999) and Nelson Domínguez Cedeño (born in 1947).

Inspired by the aesthetics inherent in the work of American visual artists Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008) and Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Esteban also dabbles in oil painting and acrylics, as well as collage, silkscreen printing and even photographic diffusion to give shape to his creations. His work, firmly rooted in reality, confronts the foundation and socio-political stakes of modern society. By avoiding cultural stereotypes, Esteban offers a singular perception of the human being that is as colourful as it is strong and poetic.
