Self-taught, I conceive my work like a composer who develops his musical theme from an ensemble of sounds.
As a child, Marc only had one art book at home. This book about Van Gogh was his mother's precious belonging. He looked through it ceaselessly and was fascinated by a painting of a caravan of travellers. At age 10 his mother took him to the Jeu de Paume Museum, which housed the impressionist collections. On leaving this museum he had only one ambition: to be an artist in his own right. Conceiving gestures as "the masterful complement of the idea", this engineer from Senlis began painting for pleasure before becoming a professional painter artist in 2003 alongside his paid employment. Six years later, when the company employing him was restructured, he decided to give it all up to dedicate himself solely to producing his works. "Captivated by the great designers, [he] had a great admiration from early on for Rembrandt, Ingres, Egon Schiele, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse and Picasso, but [was] also a fan of organic liberty that - according to him - Paul Klee, Jean Arp or William Turner feed their works with."
Seduced by both living and graphic art, Marc finds the life-saving power at the origin of his birth in each performance, each artistic realisation. However, his driving force remains music: and it is by listening to works by Johann Sebastian Bach that Marc finds his purest inspiration. Working from oil painting on canvas, the artist now prefers to devote himself to his passion with inks on paper. For several years, he has voluntarily reintroduced this technique into his work by giving it more and more importance. Marked by a strong dynamism mixed with great poetry, Marc's black silhouettes emerge from their coloured background to carry us away in their frantic dance.
