A painter and poet, Carlo was born in Cesena, Italy (Emilia-Romagna). He went to school in Sansepolcro, the birthplace of Piero della Fransceca (Italian painter, fifteenth century) and studied at the University of Pisa.
His professional career is positioned at the crossroads of several artistic movements. In 1990, he began to paint under the influence of surrealism. From 1992 to 2001, he became the editor of Sinopia, an art magazine directed by his friend, the painter and writer Serafino Beconi. He joined the Artistic Movement of Versilia (MAV), led by Alberta Bianchi Rossana and participated in many events in the Tuscan region.
In 2004, Carlo devoted himself fully to painting and divided his time between Versilia and Verona. His different travels in Europe allowed him to tackle the world of international contemporary art. In 2009 he exhibited at the Milan Triennale and the Ferrero d’Alba Foundation.
Poetry marks the rhythm of Carlo’s life. It appears in his painting and reappears in collections. His colourful universe recalls the surrealist peculiarities of René Magritte (Belgian painter, twentieth century). Some themes are common to both artists, including the cloud, a symbolic metaphor for dreams.
The artist depicts objects, animals or characters on a clean and generally uniform background. The painted subject is presented outside its usual context. Diverted from its primary function, it is considered simply for its aesthetic and poetic properties. The artist finds refuge in the silence of the sea. These moments of solitude bring a strange serenity to his works. Carlo’s art is at once accessible and enigmatic, combining virtuoso brushwork and simplification of form. The plain surface marries with the background in perfect symbiosis. The artist constructs his canvas like a puzzle. Every detail is carefully thought out and created, and contributes to the harmony of the whole. The composition opens into an infinite space where fantasy and reality merge.
