How to choose an artwork?

8 novembre 2019

Buying artwork may seem intimidating to you, especially if you haven’t been inducted to the “traditions” of this sector. However, you should know that you don’t need to be an expert to get down to it. Follow these tips to finally purchase unique and original work, in a simple and uninhibited manner!

Recognizing the quality

If an artwork spoke to you and made you quiver, it’s already a very good start. But don’t just stop here and take the time to examine it carefully. One can judge the quality of a work by observing the techniques and mediums which have been used, but also the finishing and signature. The latter is a final point of the creation, a sign of completion and acknowledgement from the creator about his/her creation. However, no need to panic, at Carré d’artistes, our experts select all our artists carefully. So, you can go for it, quality will be present.

Taking an interest in the artist

Don’t hesitate getting information on the artist who makes an impression on you. At the gallery or on the internet, you should easily be able to get the latter’s biography. This way, you’ll be able to discover the artist’s training, career but also sources of inspiration and what fascinates the artist…We promise you that your findings will only intensify your love for the work.

Making sure it’s authentic

Artwork needs to be original. To make sure it is, ensure the work possesses an authenticity certificate. This document needs to be signed, either by the artist or by the hand of a certified expert. This shall guarantee that the work isn’t a copy.

However be careful, originality doesn’t always mean that the work is unique… Some productions like photos can be copied multiple times. Each one of them has to be numbered and hand-signed by the artist. Though, make sure that the number of copies remain limited. When it comes to photography for example, the photo is considered as artwork if the number of prints is limited to 30 copies. At Carré d’artistes, don’t have any doubts as all our works are unique, originals and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Adapt to one’s budget

Often, the price of artwork depends on the creator’s popularity. We can consider that this characteristic is related to the prices which are charged by the various galleries, as they reflect the art market.

At Carré d’artistes, we’ve opted for not setting a price of our works depending on the artists, so that art remains within reach for everyone. To make the choice easy and more transparent, Carré d’artistes determines the price of a work according to its format, regardless of the artist or the technique which has been used.
