Feelings and memory give shape to the images we hold within ourselves. That's what I paint.
Born in 1996, Camille Castillon lives and works in Ganges (Hérault). She graduated with honors from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Nîmes in 2020. Having been introduced to art at a very early age through painting by the Arnhem Land Aborigines at Bodeidei Camp (Northern Territory, Australia), this is now a determining influence in her plastic research.
In an age of mass image distribution, largely dominated by photography, how can we show the personal and unique representation we have of a place, which often doesn't match the photos we've taken of it?
The result of this questioning is a representation of space based on memory and feelings: an approach similar to that of sensitive cartography.
Camille draws inspiration from a wide range of representational media to transcribe reality in ways that photography cannot. Japanese engraving, Persian tapestry, Egyptian bas-reliefs (...Etc) are among her sources of inspiration. All in an aesthetic whose identity is asserted by clear lines, dynamic graphic compositions and acid colors.
