Jan- Hein creció en una pequeña ciudad de los Países Bajos. Desde niño soñaba con ser dibujante de cómics. En el colegio se pasaba el tiempo dibujando y no le interesaban las clases. Ingresó en la Escuela de Artes Gráficas de Eindhoven, donde descubrió el diseño, la fotografía, la composición, el dibujo y la historia del arte. Se desenvolvió en un ambiente artístico en el que floreció. Tras graduarse, trabajó durante algún tiempo como diseñador gráfico independiente. Poco a poco, Jan-Hein sintió que no podía expresar plenamente su creatividad a través de su trabajo. Así que empezó a pintar y a exponer. Con el creciente éxito de sus exposiciones, empezó a trabajar cada vez menos como diseñador gráfico para dedicarse al arte. Para Jan-Hein, el mundo se compone de dos tipos de imágenes: las reales y las imaginadas por el hombre. Mientras que las representaciones artificiales de todo tipo invaden la vida cotidiana, él intenta conseguir lo contrario. Alternando un tono humorístico y otro sombrío, pinta objetos corrientes en un contexto diferente o absurdo. JanHein anima al espectador a reflexionar sobre el significado más profundo de estas imágenes.

Jan-Hein draws his inspiration from everyday materials (magazines, newspapers, advertisements). He extracts an image that becomes the inspiration for a work. Sometimes he just flips through a dictionary in search of a meaningful word. Until 2006 Jan-Hein painted in the style of the CoBrA movement (art movement of the twentieth century responding to the conflict between abstraction and figuration). Then he began to incorporate realistic representations of human body parts. This new approach radically changed the construction of his works. Today Jan-Hein’s painting combines common elements painted realistically with flights of abstract painting. Some drawn black lines highlight the work, creating a harmony between Pop Art and CoBrA.
