My pictorial work, based on the portrait, is the result of years of evolution immersed in capturing the emotion of the gaze.
Luis Álvarez Torezano vive en Barcelona, pero es natural de Pontedeume, en la provincia de La Coruña, España. Desde que tiene uso de razón, creció con los pinceles en la mano. A los 14 años pintó su primer óleo. Su pasión por la pintura nunca le ha abandonado. La pintura es su "compañera de vida", que le sigue a todas partes y enriquece continuamente su vida personal. Luis optó por no hacer de ella su oficio y se orientó profesionalmente hacia la arquitectura, que por supuesto encajaba con su personalidad creativa.
El artista crea retratos conmovedores, a veces divertidos, a veces íntimos, incluso intimidantes. Capta con brillantez las expresiones faciales de artistas, músicos y escritores y celebra la particularidad de su genio. Luis begins by selecting a photo and reproducing it in pencil, capturing every detail to bring out the character's best features. Once the likeness has been achieved, Luis paints with acrylics, using a special way of treating the background.
For him, a successful portrait must seek to reproduce the soul of the person from a minimum of physical detail. He explains that to achieve this, he uses a kind of "photographic exposure" in which white light somehow "melts" certain areas of the face. Luis pays homage to the myriad of emotions that the human face is capable of conveying, highlighting each feature to share with the public the intensity he himself felt when seeing the model for the first time.
