Gérard Mursic's subjects are as rich as they are varied. The artist depicts natural landscapes, seascapes, urban environments, still life or floral compositions in his oil paintings in a spontaneous and furtive way. Suggestion is at the heart of the artist's process and it privileges intuition in expression, sensuality in the intellect.
Proceeding by adding, taking away, or rubbing out, the artist develops a unique technique that produces subtle effects, or, on the contrary, dynamic movements. Much like watercolour, he privileges the colour white, which places contrast at the heart of his composition. Gérard Mursic states that "the canvas is a quest, an exploration". The artist cherishes the interactions between the things that complete one another and also those that do not look like one another as he works with shapes and colours, varying the rhythms and experimenting with lights and textures.
It is instinct that shapes the painter's raw materials. Freed from the constraints of drawing and representation, Gérard Mursic is inspired byTurner, Van Gogh and De Staël and lets himself be carried away in a whirlwind of creativity. Along the way, the subject sometimes evaporates or gets lost, forcing the viewer to engage with the aesthetic process, making the canvas their own, or projecting their imagination onto it.
