Each pose suggests a new way of understanding anatomy and prompts me to question myself, to take new paths.
The artist Labarussias settled in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) after a long stay in Italy. She taught the language of Dante and carried on with the art she had developed after training at the local Art-en-Ciel studio. To fulfil her artistic quest, Labarussias followed only one rule: that of putting aside the work from the day before and beginning again, always moving forward. Create and recreate, this is her credence. The artist from La Rochelle rejects any certainty. Her tireless exploration of the medium is similar to a sensory adventure. Labarussias paints as she senses her environment: in an era saturated with images, haunted by the passage of time and conditioned by speed. Attentive to the changing world, she rushes without stopping after shapes, colours and lines.
The human body, industrial landscapes, everyday objects and childhood are Corinne's main areas of work. From figurative to abstract, her colourful universe revives memories.
Her sketches of nudes, mostly women, are carried out on different types of salvaged backgrounds, such as old posters advertising media, pages of encyclopaedias or packaging cartons. She explores many techniques: watercolour, black chalk, sepia, Judea bitumen, inks, natural pigments, acrylic, etc.. Painting allows her to express herself freely and spontaneously. This exercise is an outlet. Faced with the nakedness of the body and its many postures, Labarussias’s strokes shed the superfluous, and get back to basics.
