"The beginner's mind contains many possibilities, the expert's mind contains few". (Shunryu Suzuki)
Péchane grew up in Burgundy to become a video maker, photographer and designer. When he turned 18 he enrolled at Art School in Nevers and graduated in 1996 before joining the PAC des Ouches, an institution among local artists. The artistic experimentation incubator saw him work as an animator for 25 years. A documentary introduced him to the sumi-e technique in 2002, Japanese ink painting inspired by China, combined with a zen philosophy. It was the start of a beautiful love story! He has been exhibiting his work in Hungary, where he lives, Paris and his hometown Burgundy ever since.\n
True to his carpe diem philosophy, Péchane only paints when he feels inspired and it's "the right time". The sumi-e technique involves brushes made from animal hair such as goat. They are dipped in ink then applied to paper. The hanko (an engraved seal in stone, wood or bamboo) is then used to finish the painting. The red seal is also symbolic. Péchane describes his style as a western-take on sumi-e as he paints portraits, nudes and animals. \n
