[I] only look at the flowers and think only of the moon. - Basho
Self-taught, Claire Baudry has been drawing and painting the world she observes closely since childhood. Trained in art history and a former museum curator, she now develops her own personal style using watercolors and ink. Based near Bordeaux, she divides her time between creating art, teaching art, and passing on her knowledge. Her deeply contemplative work invites us to slow down and take a sensitive look at nature, in a constant search for calm, accuracy, and silent emotion.
Claire Baudry's approach stems from a meticulous observation of reality. She often starts with a detail and then offers a more refined and evanescent vision of it. Watercolor, which she uses for its subtle transparencies and demanding technicality, occupies a central place in her work. She also explores Indian ink, seeking the power of gesture, contrast, and the depth of blacks. Nourished by art history, which she has studied extensively, she draws inspiration from both classical movements and contemporary creation, with a particular focus on the work of light and Japanese aesthetics. Her works pay homage to nature and offer a soothing, almost meditative atmosphere, inviting the viewer to a form of humble communion with the living world.
