Art is a testimony to our times
David Roland was born in Cholet in 1976 and trained at the Beaux-Arts d'Angers. Since the 1990s, he has been exhibiting and selling his first works. His artistic approach is visceral: he paints as he breathes, to capture the movement of life and awaken consciousness. Influenced by poetry and reality, he works in a rare and demanding technique: fixé sous verre, through which he tells powerful, intimate and universal stories.
David Roland paints on the reverse side of the glass, a technique known as fixé sous verre, which demands great precision and forbids any retouching. Each work is an inverted construction, starting with the details (faces, objects) before the backgrounds, in a form of controlled anamorphosis. He uses his own binders, mixing pigments, oils, resins and Arabic glue. His art, at the crossroads of visual poetry and pictorial psychoanalysis, draws on fluids, memory and movement, and is inspired by thinkers such as Bergson. Each painting becomes a constantly shifting narrative, blending personal narrative, symbolism and transformative visions.
