Lourdes Ral works mainly on wood, combining acrylic paint, pencil and oil pastels. Her works often spring from a sketch made on a train, in a bookshop or in a café - places of observation and emotion. Through a play of layers, textures and etchings, she composes vibrant scenes that reveal human feelings. An art historian, she draws her inspiration from French art of the XIXᵉ century, Spanish painting of the early XXᵉ, but also from ancient civilizations and Moorish decorative arts. Her works, imbued with gentleness and nostalgia, invite contemplation.
