Art works like a mirror that shows us how we are, how we see ourselves from within.
Originally from the province of Barcelona, Sergi has always been interested in visual and creative art. As a child, he devoted himself passionately to practicing drawing and painting, which led him, at the age of 12, to begin an apprenticeship in artistic techniques at Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Art, which he did alongside his general studies. After several years devoted to gaining the standard knowledge and skills, the interest of the young painter headed towards urban and contemporary practices, whose critical and aesthetic foundations are responsible for his personal approach; his work was rewarded in 2006 with the organisation of his first personal exhibition at the Civic Centre in his hometown.
Sergi works to develop his own pictorial language, derived from pop art, graffiti and street art, deeply enriched by American artists Andy Warhol (1928- 1987) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), leads of the underground movement. Thus, armed with sprays, markers, acrylics, oils and charcoals, Sergi draws his inspiration from the creative dynamic of urban centres, shown by the many artistic displays that adorn their buildings.
Boldly contemporary, his works display generally feminine portraits, whose black outlines strongly contrast with the palette of bright colours used for the creation of the background. This contrast in colour gives the viewer a sense of joy at the positive energy that emerges from the composition, seeming to celebrate the beauty of human existence.
